Q: What if I have never driven a 4wd before?
A: 85% of our customers have never driven a 4wd before. We will show you everything you need to know to help you have a safe and enjoyable experience self-driving Fraser Island. We are also the ONLY company based on Fraser Island, at Kingfisher Bay Resort & Village. This means no matter where you are on Fraser Island, help is already on Island ready to assist. Q: How old do I have to be to drive a vehicle?
A: Any drivers must be 21yrs+ with a current driving licence ( international is fine )

Q:How long is a recommended trip to see the major highlights?
A: Three days is a general advised trip to see the major attractions, however, there are so many beautiful hidden jems on Fraser Island, you could spend a week and not get bored! In 3 days, you will see a lot, but expect to do a lot of driving and rushing around, if you want to relax, consider 4 or 5 days. If you only have one day to explore Fraser Island, our Longest Day Away package is perfect for you, simply click ‘packages’ and select the Longest Day Away from our menu.

Q: Is Fraser Island’s wildlife dangerous?
A: Nearly all of Fraser Island’s wildlife are birds, lizards and fish. All harmless! However, the Island is also home to snakes, spiders and Australia’s native dog, the Dingo! The dingo has got bad reputation over the years due to isolated incidents more often then not, regarding children. Adults need not fear dingos at all, just don’t encourage them to interact. Families with small children may like to book a camp site with dingo fencing or chose a resort option, for added peace of mind.

Q: Is Fraser Island’s beaches safe for swimming?
A: No. Fraser Island’s entire Eastern beach is surf beach. Sharks patrol the coastline, strong rips and undertows will sweep even the strongest swimmers out to sea. There are also sea stingers.

Q: Are Fraser Island’s lakes safe for swimming?
A: Yes. ALL of Fraser Island’s lakes are safe for swimming. Many do not contain any noticeable life at all. There are no crocodiles in ANY of Fraser Island’s lakes.

Q: How will I know where to go?
A: Aussie Trax will supply you with detailed maps of Fraser Island, as well as a set day suggested itinerary that matches your tide times. These itineraries are a recommended travel plan to help maximise your time on Fraser Island and help you understand the significance of each attraction you reach.

Q: What happens if we have a problem with the car?
A: Aussie Trax can by far offer Hervey Bay’s best back up assistance. Not only are we the only company to have a 2nd office on Fraser Island, but we also have a full time employee who’s job it is to patrol Fraser Island’s inland tracks and Eastern Beach simply to assist our customers with any general enquiries and certainly any problems. We have mechanics available at 3 different locations on the island should you have any queries while over on Fraser. We also have a free call number available 24hrs a day from any public phone on the island. We offer extension of time for any loss of time or refund money when a free extension is not possible.

Q: What are the chances of me damaging the car and how much could it cost?
A: Less then .06% of our customers damage the cars and of those the average cost has been less than $200.00. However for added peace of mind, reduced insurance options will be given to customers on the day of travel, to lower their excess if desired.
